Best Pickleball Paddles in Canada (2026 Buying Guide)

Shape, core and swingweight decide how a paddle plays. Brand names do not. This guide uses only the measurements recorded on our own product pages — every number below is on the listing it is linked to, so you can check us.

Written by the staff of Tennis ProSport, a racquet-sports pro shop at 2330 chemin Ste-Foy, local 102, Québec City. We have 26 paddles with a complete specification sheet on file. Those are the ones we quote here. Where a field is blank on a listing, we leave it blank here too.

The shape budget: 23.8 to 24.0 inches, and that is all you get

Add the length and the width of every paddle we have specced and you land between 23.8 and 24.0 inches, without exception. Shape is not about getting more paddle. It is about deciding where that fixed budget goes: into reach, or into face width.

  • Elongated — 16.5 in long, 7.3 to 7.5 in wide. Longest reach, narrowest face.
  • Hybrid — 16.2 to 16.3 in long, 7.5 to 7.8 in wide. The middle.
  • Widebody / standard / square — 15.95 to 16 in long, 7.85 to 8 in wide. Widest face, shortest reach.

Those three bands come straight from the Length (in) and Width (in) fields on our listings. They are consistent across five different brands, which tells you the shapes are real categories and not marketing words.

What changes when you change shape: 6 to 10 points of swingweight

Three families in our catalogue are sold in more than one shape with the same core thickness. That makes them a clean experiment, and the answer is the same every time: the elongated version swings heavier.

Bread & Butter Loco 16mmStandard16 × 816 mm108–110

Swingweight as recorded on each listing. The OMNI Chalk and Hydro listings record it as 118 ± 2 from Selkirk and 116 from a second measurement — we quote 116 here because that is the figure on the two newest OMNI pages.

Six to ten points of swingweight inside the same model, same core, same brand. That is the single biggest lever in this whole page. A higher swingweight means more mass away from your hand: more plow through the ball, and more effort to stop the paddle at the kitchen line. A lower swingweight means the opposite.

Which shape for a beginner?

Widebody or standard. Not because it is a beginner paddle, but because of the two numbers above: the widest face in our catalogue (7.85 to 8 in) sits on the lowest swingweight (108 to 111). A wider face is easier to make contact with, and a lighter swing is easier to redirect at the net, which is where most rallies in this sport are decided.

Go elongated when you already make clean contact and want reach at the baseline or on the lob chase — and accept that you trade 6 to 10 points of swingweight and about half an inch of face width to get it.

The hybrid shapes exist for players who want the reach but not the full swingweight penalty. Our hybrid listings sit at 109 to 115 — between the two.

Paddle weight is not the variable you think it is

Every paddle on our spec sheet with a weight range on file falls between 7.7 and 8.5 oz. Twenty-five listings, five brands, under an ounce of spread. Static weight is not how these paddles differ from each other — swingweight and shape are. If a shop is selling you on ounces, ask for the swingweight instead.

16 mm or 14 mm?

Here is the honest answer. Our catalogue carries both, and we can tell you exactly which is which:

  • 16 mm — Selkirk Sport OMNI, Six Zero Coral and Coral Pro, Bread & Butter Loco, Selkirk LABS Project Boomstik.
  • 14 mm — the whole CRBN TruFoam Barrage line, Six Zero Black Opal, JOOLA Agassi Pro.

What we will not do is hand you a number for the difference, because our own spec sheets cannot isolate it: we have no two listings that share a shape and differ only by core. Every 14-versus-16 comparison we could print would be confounded by shape, and shape is worth 6 to 10 points of swingweight, which would swamp whatever the 2 mm is worth.

So: pick your shape from the numbers above, then hit both cores back to back. This is the one question in pickleball that a counter visit settles faster than any page.

Handle length, if you have a two-handed backhand

One listing in our catalogue records the handle explicitly: the CRBN¹ TruFoam Barrage, whose shape field reads « Elongated, long handle ». If you came to pickleball from tennis and hit your backhand with two hands, say so at the counter — it narrows the list immediately, and it is not a field most listings publish.

Tournament approvals, as recorded on our listings

If you play sanctioned events, read this before you read anything else. The approvals are not identical across our catalogue, and one family in particular is worth a second look.

JOOLA Agassi Pro 14mm14 mmUSAP certified (PBCoR .43) and UPA-A certified

Six Zero Coral Pro 16mm16 mmUPA-A approved — USAP not recorded
Bread & Butter Loco 16mm16 mmUSAP

These are the values in the Certification field of each product page. Sanctioning bodies revise their approved lists, and a limited-edition colourway is not always listed at the same time as the base model. Before you enter an event, check the paddle against that event's own current list. If you are unsure, call us and we will read the field to you.

The five families this guide is built on

Not a ranking. These are simply the families whose full specifications we have measured and recorded, which is why every number on this page comes from one of them.

  • Selkirk Sport OMNI — 16 mm, sold in elongated (16.5 × 7.45, SW 116) and widebody (15.95 × 8, SW 110).
  • Six Zero Coral — 16 mm, elongated (16.5 × 7.3–7.5, SW 117) and widebody (16 × 8, SW 110). The Coral Pro is the same geometry with a different approval record (see the table above).
  • Bread & Butter Loco — 16 mm, specced in all three shapes, which makes it the cleanest way to feel what shape alone does.
  • CRBN TruFoam Barrage — 14 mm, four shapes: elongated long handle (SW 118), elongated (119), square (111), hybrid AeroCurve (109). The widest swingweight spread of any family we carry.
  • Selkirk LABS Project Boomstik 16mm — sold in elongated and widebody. We have not recorded a specification sheet for it, so this page quotes no numbers for it. Ask us at the counter instead of guessing from a chart.

Everything we carry, including JOOLA and Gearbox, is on the paddles page. Specifications, where we have them, are on each product page under the description.

Buying a paddle in Québec City

We are a physical pro shop. You can hold the elongated and the widebody version of the same paddle in the same hand, one after the other, and feel the swingweight difference this page describes in about four seconds. That is worth more than any chart, including ours.

Short answers

What shape should a first paddle be?
Widebody or standard: 7.85 to 8 in of face width on a swingweight of 108 to 111, the easiest combination in our catalogue to make clean contact with.

What is the real difference between elongated, widebody and hybrid?
Half an inch of length traded against half an inch of width, and 6 to 10 points of swingweight. Length plus width is between 23.8 and 24.0 in on every paddle we have specced, so the shape decides how that budget is spent, not how much of it you get.

Does paddle weight matter?
Less than people think. Our whole specced catalogue sits between 7.7 and 8.5 oz. Ask for the swingweight.

Is 16 mm better than 14 mm?
Our own measurements cannot answer that, and we would rather say so than invent a number. Choose the shape first, then try both.

Is my paddle legal for a sanctioned tournament?
Check the certification field on its product page, then check it against your event's current list. The two do not always agree, and approvals change.
